The Freemaker Adventures Season 2

Season 1 of Lego Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures was a breath of fresh air.  It was fun, well written and didn’t take itself too seriously.  Season 2 just premiered this weekend with two great episodes.

The first two episodes of season 2 see the Freemakers join the Rebel Alliance.  They describe each of our Freemakers looking to find their place within the Alliance.

A few things stand out.

Old Characters
I really love that LFA (Lego…Freemaker Adventures) has found creative ways to make use of some interesting characters established throughout the Star Wars Saga.

RO-GR is Gilligan.
Roger is really the Gilligan of this group.  He tries really hard to be liked, but destroys things in the process.  He’s lovable.  But he causes a lot of damage.

Quarrie is a mentor character
I was really surprised that Quarrie was a part of LFA.  He’s presented as a lone ship designer working on a secret project in the basement of the Rebellion.

I love Lt. Valeria
Lt. Valeria is a great new and fun rebel character.  She’s our primary view into rebel fighters.  She flies all the ships.  She’s a leader.  She doesn’t suffer fools with the Freemakers either.  She’s everything I want in this character.

The Vader / Emperor back & forth banter is entertaining (though I object to Vader being presented as a weak character).  MOC seems like a bit of a hack – a less interesting stand-in for Nare from Season 1.  That’s perhaps the only shortcoming of Season 2 at the moment.  Nare was a far more interesting foil.  But MOC is at least good for some explosions.
